Antioxidant products on the market today are made based on an antioxidant formula. This antioxidant formula can contain a number of ingredients. Regardless of the antioxidant product you choose, one thing you’ll discover is that they all contain many of the same ingredients. The antioxidant formula used by the companies that make the products would, in general, contain primary antioxidants and ingredients that are said to boost the primary antioxidants’ effectiveness.
The primary ingredients used in the antioxidant formula typically include vitamins A, C and E. A lot of herbal users point out that much of these ingredients are naturally occurring, so there really isn’t a need to use those synthetic ingredients.
Take vitamin A, for instance. This vitamin is found in beta-carotene. Vitamin C, on the other hand, is present in ascorbic acid that’s found in the juice of citrus fruits. Vitamin E is found in tocopheryl succinate, a substance that science has found to be effective in fighting cancer. Basically, the primary ingredients that can be found in an antioxidant formula are already present in a well-balanced nutritional diet. This eliminates the need for taking antioxidant supplements.
But then, most people don’t eat a well-balanced diet; they don’t always get sufficient amounts of nutrients the body needs from their diet. This is why antioxidant supplements are popular nowadays. Other common ingredients included in an antioxidant formula include copper, selenium and zinc, as well as quercitin, which has been found to eliminate the cancer-causing free radicals in the body.
Thanks to continued research, the health supplement industry is finding new uses for fruits in order to develop a new antioxidant formula. Although a lot of fruits do contain ingredients that found many antioxidant products, how they are used is dependent on the company that creates the products. Some companies use entire fruits or plants as they say that the outer skin of the fruit is where the most amounts of antioxidants are. Other companies discard the outer skin because it affects the taste of the resulting product without adding significant health benefits.
Among the numerous antioxidant fruits, mangostene is among those highly touted. It’s in fact used in a number of antioxidant formulas. Carrots and oranges are also commonly used in antioxidant products since they contain beta-carotene and ascorbic acid, respectively.
As a consumer, it’s your responsibility to read the labels and find out the ingredients used in any antioxidant formula. Take careful note if the ingredients used are the recommended daily dosage. Be aware that some ingredients go over the recommended daily dosage and will either be eliminated by the body or accumulate in the system.
